Technip, a market-leader in providing technology, design and construction for hydrogen and syngas units, has been involved in over 200 units worldwide-with capacities ranging from 1 to 480 tons per day - for use in the refining, chemicals/petrochemicals and metals producing industries.

Technip holds an impressive track record in the development and application of several industrial firsts in this field, which include:

Pre-reforming
Feed saturator
700 tube reformer
Multiple feed automatic changeover: in a large hydrogen plant (240t/day)
Largest single train hydrogen plant (480 ton/day)
DeNOx unit
Largest hybrid hydrogen recovery plant (PSA + cold box)
Integration of hydrogen recovery and hydrogen regeneration
Gas turbine exhaust integration in hydrogen reformer
Regenerative reforming (SMART and ART reformers)
Recuperative (convective) post reforming using EHTR

Hydrogen production units generally involve steam-hydrocarbon reforming, followed by water-gas shift conversion and "Pressure Swing Adsorption" (PSA) purification in order to achieve high-purity hydrogen. Technip also pioneered the first application of a PSA system in a hydrogen plant as early as 1969-a system which has now become the current industry norm.

Technip offers its own hydrogen technology and reformer design (ex-KTI) for handling feedstocks ranging from natural gas and refinery off-gases to LPG and naphtha (to download pdf file - 782 Ko)

Since 1992, a global alliance between Technip and Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. has been established for the supply of hydrogen on an "on-site" or pipeline basis, mainly to the refining industry. To date, the alliance provides more than 2,300 tons per day of hydrogen to several leading refiners.
