Technip-Coflexip awarded expansion and modernization project for two combined heat power plants in Germany

TECHNIP–COFLEXIP (NYSE: TKP and Euronext: 13170) has recently been awarded by RWE Systems AG a lumpsum turnkey contract, valued at about 41 million euros, for the "expansion and modernization measures" aimed at increasing efficiency in two existing natural gas-fired cogeneration plants. The plants are located in the neighboring cities of Bochum and Dortmund in the midwest of Germany (Ruhrgebiet).

Technip-Coflexip’s scope of work covers design, mechanical and electrical equipment supply, dismantling of existing parts, erection of new parts and commissioning of the upgraded plants. In addition to the local control room at Bochum Technip-Coflexip will also be responsible for the design and installation at Dortmund of a new single centralized control room for the two plants.

The project, to be handled by Technip-Coflexip’s engineering center in Dusseldorf, will be carried out simultaneously at both locations, with the two plants running practically non-stop. The completion of the works is scheduled for March 2004.

The Bochum heating power plant provides the car manufacturer Adam Opel AG with district heating steam and the local Ruhr-University with district heating water. The Dortmund heating power plant supplies the city with district heating steam and heating water as well as some industrial clients with process steam. Electrical power from both plants will be fed into the existing local electricity networks.
