Technip and Sonangol inaugurated the first umbilical manufacturing plant in Angola
Technip and Sonangol held the opening ceremony of Angoflex Limitada, their newly built umbilical plant (umbilicals are control lines to operate subsea wellheads from a platform or a vessel), located in Lobito, Angola, on February 27.
This event was attended by the Ministry of Oil, the Governor of Benguela Province, the senior management of Technip, and an important Angolan delegation including the management of the state oil company Sonangol, as well as numerous representatives of the main oil & gas operators established in the country.
The plant, the first built in Africa, was completed by the end of 2003 and includes all machinery for the manufacturing of steel tube umbilicals and related products to supply the high-growth market of African deepwater field developments. The production personnel, recruited locally, completed an extensive training program in Brazil, in the USA and in the UK, at Technip’s other manufacturing plants.
Angoflex Limitada (a joint venture between Technip and Sonangol) will contribute to the industrial development of the Province of Benguela as well as of the Angolan economy. With this new entity, Technip expands its asset base in West Africa where it has a strong local presence through its affiliates such as Angoflex and Technip Angola located in Luanda (Angola).
This new milestone, achieved with the support of Sonangol and the Angolan authorities, follows the deep offshore development contracts, Dalia and Greater Plutonio recently won by Technip.
With a workforce of about 19,000 persons, Technip ranks among the top five corporations in the field of oil, gas and petrochemical engineering, construction and services. Headquartered in Paris, the Group is listed in New York and Paris. The Group’s main engineering and business centers are located in France, Italy, Germany, the U.K., Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, the United States, Brazil, Abu-Dhabi, China, India, Malaysia and Australia.
