Novo Nordisk's insulin plant expansion in France
Technip has been awarded, by Novo Nordisk, the expansion of its insulin production plant, located at Chartres, 100 km southwest of Paris, France.
Valued at about €128 million, this expansion project represents one of Novo Nordisk’s most significant investments ever made outside of Denmark. This service contract is also one of the most important which has been recently awarded to Technip in the area of pharmaceuticals, translating into 70,000 engineering hours to be performed by Technip’s engineering center in Paris by the end of the first half of 2005.
This major investment by the pharmaceutical Danish group Novo Nordik, which specializes in diabetes treatment, aims at doubling the production capacity of insulin doses and increasing the volume of production of Flexpen, an insulin injection pen of the latest generation.
The addition of a new filling line and 2 assembly and packaging lines will double the production of insulin doses and triple the production of injection pens by 2008. Once completed, this plant will be Novo Nordisk’s leading industrial center in the world for diabetes treatment.
Technip is in charge of the engineering and project management of all the facilities to be expanded:
- Revamping and expansion of the insulin filling unit,
- New assembly and packaging workshop for the insulin injection pens,
- The central heating system.
