History COFLEXIP exists since 1972, when a patent from the French Institute of Petroleum (IFP) was used to build a high pressure, flexible steel pipe. This pipe was designed in the first place as a flexible drilling system. If this particular application did not perform as expected, the concept of the flexible pipe has ever since proven to be extremely successful. The first 15 000 Psi flexible Kill and Choke line was produced in 1976 (a 2.5" ID), and the design has been continuously improved since to the present 3" 15K, 100°C Rilsan® and the 3" 15K, 130°C, COFLON® structures. Following the designs of these types of high pressure flexibles, COFLEXIP has designed the now well known flexible Flowlines and Risers, used by the Offshore Oil Companies in the most arduous conditions throughout the world. The Division The COFLEXIP DRILLING, REFINING and ONSHORE Division designs, manufactures and markets products for a number of applications where the TECHNIP know-how in high performance flexible pipes is necessary to meet the Industry's always challenging needs. These applications are diverse, and cover a wide range of diameters, pressure ratings and fields of use. New applications for our products are regularly proposed by our Customers, as the main reason of the success of the COFLEXIP solution is that "before us there was no solution!" Most applications where a COFLEXIP pipe is used require some degree of study to be performed, alternatively the line(s) is (are) proposed together with a detailed design, guaranteeing a permanent, trouble free service.
